Slab doors
A slab door is a single flat panel with no frame, which is as minimal as a cabinet door gets. Luxe and Luxe Oak from Fabuwood and Rushmore from Legend are slab doors on a face frame box, so you get the modern face with the familiar framed construction. Catalina and Ovela Catalina are slab doors on a frameless box with a thermally fused melamine surface, in more than 30 colors and wood grain textures; that is the true European look, with doors that cover the full box and no frame showing between them.
Slim shaker doors
If a full slab feels too stark, slim shaker gives you a flat panel with a narrow frame, about half the width of a classic shaker rail. It reads modern from across the room and adds a shadow line up close. Luna, Luna Oak, Sierra Paint, Sierra Stain, Contemporary and Contemporary Oak are our slim shaker lines. The full shaker collection covers the wider frames.
Frameless versus face frame
Frameless boxes have no front frame, so door and drawer openings are about an inch and a half wider, the doors sit edge to edge, and the look is seamless. Face frame boxes have a solid wood frame on the front that adds rigidity and gives you a reveal between doors. Both are available here. Frameless is the purer modern look; face frame is easier to install plumb on an uneven wall and takes partial-overlay hinges if you want a visible frame.
Modern white, black and wood
Modern white kitchens use a slab or slim shaker door in a bright, cool white; Luxe and Luna in Frost are the lines to compare, and the wider white cabinets page has the rest. For a dark modern kitchen, Rushmore Paint in Black and the Catalina matte darks sit on the black and dark cabinets page. For a warm modern look, pair slab doors in a light oak stain; see wood and oak cabinets.
Hardware that keeps it clean
Slab doors look best with edge pulls, finger pulls, or long bar pulls mounted horizontally. Push-to-open hinges and slides remove hardware entirely. Both are in our cabinet hardware range.
Order a sample door first
Sheen matters more on a flat door than on any other style. Matte, satin and gloss slab doors in the same color look like three different kitchens. Order the sample.
