Entry Door Hardware

Entry door hardware covers everything on a door except the hinges: the knob or lever, the latch and lock, the strike plate, the door stop and the finishing touches like a mail slot, knocker or house numbers. Almost every item here is from Deltana, in solid brass, stainless steel and zinc, in finishes from polished brass to oil-rubbed bronze and satin nickel.

Popular picks include the Deltana heavy-duty surface bolt, the 3" solid brass baseboard door bumper and the 8-7/8" mail slot with interior frame. See all Deltana hardware or all architectural door hardware.

Questions

What's the difference between passage, privacy and dummy hardware?

Passage sets latch but don't lock, for halls and closets. Privacy sets lock from the inside, for bedrooms and baths. Dummy sets don't latch at all; they're a fixed knob or lever for pantry doors and the inactive side of double doors.

What is backset?

Backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the knob or lever hole, usually 2-3/8" or 2-3/4". Match it when you replace a latch.

Should all door hardware match?

Keep the finish the same on a door and across a room. Many people use one finish for the whole house so knobs, hinges and stops line up.
