Drawer Slides

Drawer slides, also called drawer runners or drawer glides, are the hardware that lets a drawer open and close smoothly. Shop side-mount, undermount and center-mount slides for kitchen cabinets, furniture, file drawers and shop storage from brands like Blum, Knape & Vogt, Hettich, Sugatsune and Fulterer, plus our own CSH ball-bearing slides.

Pick a mounting style

  • Side-mount drawer slides fasten to the sides of the drawer and the cabinet. Many, including our CSH ball-bearing slides, need 1/2" of clearance on each side of the drawer.
  • Undermount drawer slides fasten under the drawer box, so they stay out of sight when the drawer is open. Blum TANDEM and MOVENTO runners close softly with BLUMOTION built in.
  • Center-mount slides run on a single track under the middle of the drawer. We carry 3/4-extension center-mount slides from Sugatsune and U.S. Futaba.

Pick how far it opens

A 3/4-extension slide opens about 75% of its length. A full-extension drawer slide brings the back of the drawer even with the front of the cabinet, so you can reach everything inside. Over-travel slides go 1" or more past the cabinet front for full access to the drawer.

Pick how it closes

Soft-close drawer slides catch the drawer and pull it gently shut, so it can't slam. You'll also find self-closing slides, push-to-open slides such as the Knape & Vogt 4260, and Blum TIP-ON BLUMOTION units that add touch-to-open to MOVENTO runners.

Pick a weight rating

Ratings run from light-duty keyboard and center-mount slides up to heavy-duty slides like the KV 8810 (200 lb), the Fulterer 450 lb slide with lock-in and lock-out, and Sugatsune stainless steel slides rated up to 600 lb. Ratings change with slide length and how the cabinet is built, so choose a rating above the load you expect to store. See every slide rated 150 lb or more in heavy-duty drawer slides.

How to size drawer slides

  • Length: slide length follows drawer depth. Knape & Vogt's example: a standard 24" deep kitchen cabinet takes a 22" drawer, which usually gets a 21" slide.
  • Side-mount width: for slides that need 1/2" per side, build the drawer 1" to 1-1/16" narrower than the opening.
  • Undermount fit: check your drawer side thickness and follow the maker's drawer-box spec. For Blum MOVENTO, the inside drawer width is the opening width minus 1-21/32" (42 mm), and the drawer back needs a rear notch.
  • Replacing a slide: measure the old slide's length, note how it mounts, and check the clearance between the drawer and the cabinet before you order.

Specialty slides and parts

We also carry stainless steel slides from Sugatsune and Knape & Vogt, keyboard slides, pocket door slides and cutting board slides. Locking devices, front clips, back sockets and spacers are in drawer slide accessories.

Questions

What are the three types of drawer slides?

Side-mount, undermount and center-mount. Side-mount slides fasten to the drawer sides, undermount slides hide under the drawer box, and center-mount slides use one track under the middle of the drawer.

What size drawer slide do I need?

Match the slide to the drawer depth, not the cabinet. In a standard 24" deep kitchen cabinet with a 22" drawer, a 21" slide is the usual choice.

How do I know what drawer slides to buy?

Decide on the mounting style, then the length, how far the drawer should open, how it should close and the weight it will carry. For an existing drawer, measure the space between the drawer and the cabinet: side-mount slides need room at the sides, undermount slides need the right drawer side thickness.

Can I add soft-close to existing drawers?

Yes, by replacing the slides with soft-close slides of the same length and mounting style. Our CSH soft-close side-mount slide uses the same 1/2" side clearance and 1-3/4" height as our standard CSH full-extension slide.

Do you sell replacement parts for drawer slides?

Yes. Find locking devices for Blum TANDEM and MOVENTO, front clips and locking clips for CSH undermount slides, back sockets and slide spacers in drawer slide accessories.
