Side-Mount Drawer Slides

Side-mount drawer slides fasten to the sides of the drawer and the inside of the cabinet. They fit standard drawer boxes, they're simple to install and replace, and they come in every weight rating, from light-duty file drawers to 600 lb industrial loads.

What we carry

How to size side-mount slides

  • Clearance: most side-mount slides need 1/2" on each side, so build the drawer 1" to 1-1/16" narrower than the opening. Heavy-duty slides can need more: the KV 8810 needs 3/4" per side.
  • Height: check the slide height against the drawer side. CSH ball-bearing slides are 1-3/4" tall; the KV 8810 is 2".
  • Length: match the slide to the drawer depth. Knape & Vogt's example is a 21" slide for a 22" drawer in a 24" deep kitchen cabinet.
  • Width: Knape & Vogt notes that drawers wider than 24" can rack, and recommends slides designed for the width of the drawer.

Questions

How much clearance do side-mount drawer slides need?

Most need 1/2" on each side of the drawer, for 1" total. Heavy-duty slides like the KV 8810 need 3/4" per side. Check the clearance listed on each product.

What length side-mount slide do I need?

Choose the slide by drawer depth. A 22" deep drawer usually takes a 21" slide, and the slide must not be longer than the inside depth of the cabinet.

What is a lever disconnect?

A small lever on each slide that lets you lift the drawer out without unscrewing anything. The CSH full-extension and many Knape & Vogt slides have one.

Are side-mount drawer slides strong enough for heavy drawers?

Yes, with the right rating. Side-mount slides cover the heaviest loads we sell, from 200 lb Knape & Vogt slides to Sugatsune stainless slides rated up to 600 lb.
