Mounting plates, accessories and lifts

Two-piece concealed hinges, such as Blum Clip Top, clip onto a separate base, so pick up the matching mounting plates. Hinge accessories include angle restriction clips, cover caps, Blumotion add-on dampers, installation templates and replacement hinge tips. For upper cabinets with doors that lift up, see cabinet lift systems such as Blum Aventos.

Hidden door hinges

Building a hidden bookcase door? The InvisiDoor Hinge Kit is the pivot hinge used on InvisiDoor bookcase doors. It works for inswing or outswing doors in standard 32" and 36" openings.

How to choose a hinge

Start with where the hinge goes. For a cabinet door, note whether the cabinet has a face frame or is frameless, whether the door is full overlay, half overlay or inset, and how far it overlays the opening. Then choose the opening angle, the closing action (soft-close, self-closing or free-swinging) and the finish. For a passage door, match the size, corner shape and finish of the hinges you have now. Our guide to types of cabinet hinges walks through each style.

Questions

What are the main types of hinges?

For cabinets, the common types are concealed (European) hinges, surface-mount hinges, semi-concealed and wrap-around hinges, and butt hinges. Doors mostly use butt hinges, including ball-bearing and spring hinges, while invisible hinges such as SOSS stay hidden when the door is closed.

Which hinges do I need for kitchen cabinets?

Most kitchen cabinets use concealed hinges. Match the hinge to a face-frame or frameless cabinet and to your door overlay. If you're replacing hinges, copy the type, overlay and mounting of the old one, or browse all cabinet hinges.

Can I buy hinges in bulk?

Yes. Many hinges have quantity pricing, and some come in contractor box quantities, such as Blum hinges in multiples of 250 and Youngdale hinges in boxes of 400.
