Concealed Cabinet Hinges

Concealed hinges, also called European or hidden hinges, mount on the inside of the cabinet so the door closes with no hinge showing. They're the most popular choice for modern kitchens, and most can be adjusted after the door is hung so the gaps line up. We carry concealed cabinet hinges from Blum, Youngdale, Pride Industrial, FGV and Hickory Hardware for face-frame and frameless cabinets.

How concealed hinges work

The hinge cup sits in a round hole bored in the back of the door, usually 35mm across. The arm attaches to the cabinet, either directly (one-piece hinges such as Blum Compact) or by clipping onto a separate mounting plate (two-piece hinges such as Blum Clip Top). Blum hinges adjust in three dimensions, and the cup can be screwed on or pressed in, with Blum Inserta and Expando options on some models.

Face-frame concealed hinges

Full overlay, half overlay and inset

Concealed hinges are made for how the door sits on the cabinet. Blum Clip Top Blumotion 110° hinges come straight-arm for full overlay, half-cranked for half overlay (two doors sharing one partition) and full-cranked for inset doors, in nickel or black. The Pride Industrial soft-close clip-on 110° hinge also comes in full overlay, half overlay and inset versions.

Wide-angle and special-purpose hinges

The Blum Clip Top 155° zero protrusion hinge is for cabinets with inner drawers or pull-out shelves, and the Blum Clip Top 170° hinge opens doors wide for full access. We also carry Blum bi-fold, angled and thick-door hinges. To limit how far a door opens, add a Blum 86° restriction clip.

Soft-close or self-closing

Many concealed hinges come both ways. See soft-close cabinet hinges for hinges with the damper built in. Looking for hidden hinges for a full-size door instead? See SOSS invisible hinges.

Questions

What is a concealed hinge?

A cabinet hinge that mounts on the inside of the door and cabinet, so you can't see it when the door is closed. It's also called a European, Euro or hidden hinge.

What are the three types of concealed hinges?

They're usually grouped by how the door sits: full overlay (the door covers the cabinet side), half overlay (two doors share one partition) and inset (the door sits inside the opening).

Can I use concealed hinges on face-frame cabinets?

Yes. Face-frame hinges such as the Blum Compact 38N and 39C and Youngdale concealed hinges are made for face-frame cabinets. Choose the one that matches your overlay.

How are concealed hinges installed?

Bore the cup hole in the back of the door, fasten the hinge cup, attach the mounting plate or hinge arm to the cabinet, then hang the door and adjust it. Our soft-close hinge upgrade guide covers the steps.

Are concealed hinges the same as European hinges?

Yes. Concealed, European, Euro and hidden hinges all describe the same cup-style cabinet hinge.
