Tambour Doors

A tambour door is a flexible door made of narrow wood slats on a cloth backing. Instead of swinging open, it rolls up or slides back into the cabinet along a curved track, so nothing blocks your counter or the space in front of the cabinet. That's why tambour doors are the go-to for appliance garages, roll-up kitchen cabinet doors, pantries and home or garage storage.

Tambour door kits with track

Our veneer tambour door kits and solid wood tambour door kits include the door and a spring tension track system, so there's no track to buy separately. The face frame kits mount behind your cabinet's face frame (face frame not included). Choose a 15", 24" or 30" width in red oak, cherry or maple, with hickory and ash in select sizes. Doors come unfinished, and the width is easy to trim to your opening.

Building a frameless, European-style cabinet? Use the solid wood tambour door for frameless cabinets, in red oak or maple.

Appliance garage kits

An appliance garage hides the toaster, coffee maker and mixer behind a roll-up door while keeping them at counter height. Our solid wood appliance garage kits and veneer appliance garage kits arrive prefabricated with the tambour door, track, a solid wood face frame and veneer end panels. They come in 17", 18" and 24" widths: the 17" kit is made for a 24" corner and the 24" kit for a straight run. The 17" and 24" kits measure 18-1/2" high and 11-7/8" deep. Compare every kit on the appliance garages page.

Tambour sheets for custom doors

Making your own roll-top cabinet or a larger opening? Veneer tambour sheets are wood veneer bonded to MDF with a balance veneer on a cloth backer. Solid wood tambour sheets are individual hardwood slats bonded to a cloth backer. Both come sanded and ready to finish, in 24" and 36" sizes plus a 60" x 36" tambour sheet.

How to choose

  • Face frame or frameless: face frame cabinets have a solid wood frame around the opening; frameless cabinets don't. Order the kit that matches your cabinet.
  • Width: measure the opening, then choose the 15", 24" or 30" kit that covers it. The door's width can be trimmed down.
  • Veneer or solid wood: veneer is usually the lower-cost option; solid wood slats are hardwood all the way through.
  • Track color: most kits use an almond track; select solid wood kits come with a white track.

Questions

What is a tambour door?

It's a door made of thin wood slats attached to a flexible backing, so it can bend around a curved track. Roll-top desks and appliance garages use tambour doors. They roll up or slide sideways into the cabinet instead of swinging out.

Do your tambour door kits include the track?

Yes. Our face frame door kits include the door and an almond spring tension track. The solid wood kits, for example, come with a hand pull and a track system of two PVC guide rails, a wood dowel, donuts and a tension spring that mounts to the back of the face frame.

Can I cut a tambour door to fit my cabinet?

Yes. The door kits are easily trimmable in width, so you can order the next size up and trim it to your opening.

What's the difference between veneer and solid wood tambour?

Veneer tambour has a wood veneer face over an MDF core. Solid wood tambour is made from individual solid hardwood slats. Both are unfinished and ready to stain or paint to match your cabinets.

Can I buy a replacement tambour door or track?

Yes. Order the door kit in the width you need, or just the face frame spring tension track system, which comes in a 24" width in white.

What comes in an appliance garage kit?

A prefabricated unit with the tambour door mounted to a solid wood face frame, veneer end panels on 3/8" MDF, doweled joints and a spring roll system that helps the door open. It ships unfinished and is easy to trim.
