About CSH
What started in a barn . . . .
In 1977, Custom Service Hardware was incorporated. Frank began CSH building waterbeds in the barn at his home. Frustration in the ability to get the parts he needed, Frank decided to make his own waterbed brackets. You can never get just one part, and Frank was shocked when he received his first box of 5000 screws – thinking “this is enough for a lifetime”!
And a one page catalog . . . .
Seeing the need to help cover the costs of the parts, Frank decided to sell the excess to other waterbed builders. Using the old fashioned copiers and hand drawn pictures, Frank sent out his first catalog to all the builders he knew. In came the orders. The packaging and shipping department were Frank’s two daughters. As business grew, friends from high school joined in.
And has grown to this . . . .
As times changed, so did CSH. Frank decided it to be prudent to add hardware for cabinet and furniture makers. Shortly thereafter, Frank began to import his own hardware, as well as produce his own in Cedarburg. The catalog grew, the staff grew, and now CSH supplies over 25,000 products to include a full line of ready-to-assemble cabinets. With 60,000 square feet of warehouse space and 35 full time employees, CSH has become a leader in the wholesale hardware industry.
Custom Service Hardware, Inc. has grown by developing customer relationships the old fashioned way – by earning them.
“If everyone is going to eat- someone has to sell something”.
