Hidden door questions

How much does a hidden bookcase door cost?

InvisiDoor assembled pivot doors start at $1,430, bi-fold doors at $2,320.50, and the DIY hinge kit is $172.20. Packages with the jamb and trim cost more; the 3D designer shows the exact price.

Will a hidden bookcase door fit my doorway?

The pivot door fits a 32" or 36" wide by 80" high opening. For wider openings, the bi-fold fits 49", 61" or 73" wide by 80" high openings.

Should a hidden door swing in or out?

Either works. Inswing pushes into the hidden room and gives up 7" of pass-through; outswing pulls into the main room and keeps the opening clear. Jamb sets come in both versions.

How do hidden door hinges work?

The InvisiDoor Hinge Kit uses a pivot hinge with a support foot and stop instead of standard door hinges, so the whole bookcase pivots open, inswing or outswing, hinged left or right.

Can I build my own hidden bookcase door?

Yes. The hinge kit includes the pivot hinge for one door, a support foot and stop, fasteners and instructions for building your own bookcase door. Add a jamb set and a latch to finish the opening.

What do I need to know before installing one?

Plan the mounting first: InvisiDoor doors must be mounted to the structural framing. Instructions are included, and the manuals are on our installation guides page.

Can I use a bookcase door for a hidden pantry?

Yes. A pivot bookcase door covers a standard 32" or 36" pantry doorway, and the shelves add storage on the kitchen side.

How do I keep a hidden door closed?

Add a latch: the secret book latch opens when you pull a trick book, the cane latch uses a metal door handle, the PS-Lock RFID lock opens with a key card or fob, and the motorized latch opens with a remote fob.

What is a hidden bookcase door called?

People call it a hidden door, secret door, bookcase door or bookshelf door: a working door built as a bookcase, so the doorway looks like shelving until it swings open.

InvisiDoor hidden doors turn a doorway into a working bookcase that swings open to reveal the room behind it. Use one to conceal a safe room, closet, pantry, laundry room, home office or gun storage. Choose an assembled pivot bookcase door for a standard 32" or 36" doorway, a bi-fold bookcase door for 48", 60" or 72" openings, or a hinge kit to build your own.

Pivot bookcase doors

The InvisiDoor pivot bookcase door comes assembled with one fixed shelf, three adjustable shelves and 12 shelf supports, plus the pivot hinge kit and fasteners. It can open in or out and swing left or right, and it's sized for standard door openings. It comes unfinished in maple, red oak or cherry, ready to stain or paint to match the room.

Bi-fold bookcase doors for wide openings

The InvisiDoor bi-fold bookcase door folds out into the room and off to the side, so it suits wide openings. Each kit comes assembled and unfinished with six shelves, the bi-fold hardware kit and a valance, in widths for 48", 60" and 72" openings.

Hidden door hinges to build your own

The InvisiDoor Hinge Kit is the pivot hinge used on our bookcase doors. It works for inswing or outswing doors hinged left or right, fits standard 32" and 36" door openings, and includes a support foot and stop, fasteners and instructions for building your own bookcase door. For a custom bi-fold, use the Bi-Fold Hardware Kit.

Jambs, trim, shelves and flat panel doors

Finish the opening with an InvisiDoor jamb and threshold set for inswing or outswing doors, matching trim molding and extra shelves, all unfinished in maple, red oak or cherry. Flat panel doors close over the lower shelves for an extra layer of secrecy.

Hidden latches, locks and lighting

The secret book latch keeps the door closed while it still looks like a bookcase, and it opens easily from inside the room. For more security, the PS-Lock RFID lock mounts out of sight and opens with a key card or key fob. Light kits and a speaker and USB charger kit finish the shelves.
